Croydon
When your base is in Coulsdon, the borough of Croydon is not a coverage area, it is the neighbourhood. From the Victorian terraces of Addiscombe and the Old Town to the Edwardian semis of South Croydon, the thirties avenues of Selsdon and Sanderstead and the grander houses around Croham Hurst, we have swept the lot, generation after generation.
Few places offer a sweep more variety. One morning it is an original open fire in a terrace off Lower Addiscombe Road, the afternoon a modern stove on a stainless flue in a Selsdon extension, and the day ends at a big Sanderstead place with a stack full of pots. Whatever is burning under your roof, it needs a clean, clear flue to burn safely, and that is precisely the trade we have practised since 1870.
Naish & Sons is the oldest established chimney sweep firm in London, five generations of the same family, NACS certified and fully insured. Every Croydon job gets sheets down, a sealed fireplace, a proper brush and vacuum sweep, a smoke test where required and the official certificate in your hand before we leave.
What We Do Here
Open fires, wood burners, brick flues, stainless liners and twin-wall systems: the borough has them all and we sweep them all, with the right gear for each.
Based inside the borough, we can usually fit Croydon jobs in quickly, and coming back to check something is never a problem. Local means local.
Sweeping, smoke tests, nest clearance, bird guards, cowls and camera inspections, finished with the NACS certificate your insurer wants to see.
Good To Know
As local as it gets: our base is in Coulsdon, inside the borough, so a Croydon booking is a home fixture for us. There is no travelling time to build into the day and no reluctance to pop back if you ever need us again. The firm has served this side of London since 1870, and the fifth generation of the family is doing it still.
Yes. Twin-wall and lined stainless flues need sweeping just as brick chimneys do, because burning wood deposits tar and creosote whatever it passes through, and many liner warranties actually depend on regular professional sweeping. We sweep the full run with the right rods and heads for the system, check the draw and issue your NACS certificate as normal.
The chimney usually tells you: smoke drifting back into the room, a fire that is slow to get going, soot falling into the hearth, a tarry smell in humid weather or twigs appearing in the grate. Any of those means book a sweep now. Better still, do not wait for the warning signs: once a year as a minimum, and quarterly in use if you burn wood, keeps the flue ahead of trouble.
Someone needs to let us in and be around while we work, but it does not have to be you: plenty of Croydon customers arrange for a relative, neighbour or keyholder to be there instead. We are used to sweeping for older residents whose family book on their behalf, and we will happily ring ahead so nobody is waiting in all day.
Very little is needed. Let the fire go cold, no burning for 24 hours beforehand, scoop out any ash if you can, and clear a little working space around the fireplace, including anything precious off the mantelpiece. We bring the sheets, the seals and the vacuum, and we handle everything else from there.
The whole borough: Addiscombe, South Croydon, Sanderstead, Selsdon, Shirley, Waddon, the Old Town, Croham Hurst and out through Purley to our own doorstep in Coulsdon. Victorian terrace, thirties semi or a big place backing onto the golf course, we sweep them all, and we have done since 1870.
Also sweeping in Shirley, Streatham, Dulwich, Tooting and across south London.
